UCC Lecturer Narrates How He Travelled To Ghana From Germany Using Ghana Card

 



A lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Ghana has narrated how he was able to travel from Germany to Ghana using his Ghana Card.


Dr. Kwabena Opoku-Amankwa, who is a lecturer at the Department of History and Political Science at UCC, said he was able to use his Ghana Card to book his flight and also complete all the necessary immigration procedures at the airport in Frankfurt, Germany.


According to Dr. Opoku-Amankwa, he was initially skeptical about using his Ghana Card for travel purposes, but after conducting some research and being assured by officials at the Ghana Immigration Service, he decided to give it a try.


"I was a bit hesitant at first, but I did some research and found out that the Ghana Card is now a valid travel document for Ghanaians traveling to and from Ghana. So, I decided to use it for my trip," he said.


Dr. Opoku-Amankwa explained that he was able to book his flight online using his Ghana Card as his identification document. He then proceeded to the airport in Frankfurt where he presented his Ghana Card to immigration officials who were able to verify his identity and process his travel documents.


"I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the process was. The immigration officials were able to verify my identity using the biometric data on my Ghana Card and I was able to complete all the necessary immigration procedures without any issues," he said.


The use of the Ghana Card for travel purposes is partof the government's efforts to promote the use of the card as a multi-purpose national identification document. The Ghana Card contains biometric data such as fingerprints and facial recognition, making it a secure and reliable form of identification.


Dr. Opoku-Amankwa's successful use of the Ghana Card for travel has been hailed as a positive development by officials at the National Identification Authority (NIA), which is responsible for issuing the cards.


"The Ghana Card is a game-changer when it comes to national identification and we are pleased to see more and more Ghanaians using it for various purposes, including travel," said Mr. Francis Palmdeti, the Head of Corporate Affairs at the NIA.


He added that the NIA is working to ensure that more Ghanaians are able to obtain their Ghana Cards and take advantage of the many benefits it offers.


The successful use of the Ghana Card for travel by Dr. Opoku-Amankwa is likely to encourage more Ghanaians to obtain the card and use it for various purposes, including travel. With its biometric features and secure identification, the Ghana Card is poised to revolutionize the way Ghanaians identify themselves and conduct various transactions.
