Kwadwo Asare Konadu Gyamfi, a male student in his third year at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was saved after attempting suicide at Brunie Complex, an 8-story hostel block on campus.
According to reports, Gyamfi, who is a medical student, was seen hanging from a balcony in a video shared by The KNUST Voice, a social media page that reports on campus events. Fortunately, his colleagues intervened in time, held onto him, and pulled him to safety. Following the video's circulation, a suicide note purportedly written by Gyamfi was also posted on social media.
In the note, he expressed his difficulties in reaching the decision to end his life and attributed it to depression, which made him feel that life was not worth living.
The school administration and hostel operators have yet to comment on the incident.
