A civilian was beaten by personnel from the Ghana Police Service who were operating under the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD).The incident, which occurred on June 17, 2023, in Obuasi, in the Ashanti Region, was captured in a viral video.
It is unclear what led to the altercation, but witnesses heard in the video claim that the police officer initiated the physical confrontation. The video shows the officer, dressed in a white and black uniform, grappling with the civilian and punching him in the face.
Despite attempts by bystanders to intervene, the officer continued to restrain the civilian, insisting on making an arrest. One witness can be heard speaking out against the officer's actions, stating that the officer had no right to use violence against a civilian who had not committed any wrongdoing.
